World Figure Skating Championships 2014 in Saitama, Japan

177 athletes from 38 countries are participating now in the World Figure Skating Championships this year.
It started from 24 March and will continue to 30 March. Japan is host of the World Figure Skating Championships for the fifth time in the history. The place of the championship is Saitama Super Arena, which is able to accommodate 37 000 spectators. The gold medalist and favorite from Sochi, Yuzuru Hanyu was third after falling during his performance. The first position was for the Tatsuki Machida. He was amazing in his performance and achieved huge score – 98.21 points.
Unfortunately, Daisuke Takahashi can not participate, due to trauma.
“Goodbye!” to the audience will say also Akiko Suzuki: “This will be the last competition of my career and it means a lot to me. After my performance I want to think that I was able to show everything I can.”
Mao Asada will fight for the third title and will compete in the short program for Japan on Saturday.

And here are some facts: Japanese figure skating celebrates couple anniversary now.
– 25 years ago, Midori Ito became the first world champion from Japan (Paris, 1989).
– 20 years ago, Yuka Sato won gold in Chiba (1994). Now she will be back as a coach.
– 10 years ago, Shizuka Akarava became world champion (Dortmund, 2004) and now will celebrate as a commentator on Japanese TV.
